Riverdale might fill that Gossip Girl-sized hole in your heart.
This exclusive new promo for the CW midseason series reveals our first look at the network’s gritty take on the Archie comics. Set in the present day, the Greg Berlanti-produced drama will follow Archie (KJ Apa) and other beloved characters from the comics as they enter their sophomore year of high school while dealing with a murder-mystery.
“It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW at San Diego Comic Con earlier this year. “We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks.”
The eerie promo teases a rather buff Archie, parties, plenty of high school of drama, and also features shots of Veronica (Camila Mendes), the new girl in town competing with Betty (Lili Reinhart) for Archie’s affections. Flashes of ambulance lights and yellow police tape tease the tragic death of “high school golden boy” Jason Blossom, which kicks off the series.
CW has released a statement regarding the series that are premiering this midseason and one of them is, of course, Riverdale! The so awaited show premieres Tuesday, January 26th, right after Supernatural winter return!
On Thursday, January 26, SUPERNATURAL returns from its winter hiatus at its new time (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT), followed by the series debut of The CW’s new drama RIVERDALE (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT), a surprising and subversive take based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics.
KJ is on the seventh issue of Black Magazine, a New Zealand fashion, beauty, arts and culture magazine. I’ve added to the gallery scans from the magazine, plus outtakes.
KJ was photographed yesterday on set of Riverdale in Vancouver with his co-star Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty and one of Archie’s love interests. Thanks to my friend Steph, you’ll find photos from the two shooting and having some fun on set in our gallery!
CW has released recently a behind the scenes video from the casts season 1 photoshoot. The photoshoot was taken during San Diego Comic Con, most specifically when the cast was on board of the CW Yatch!

Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall. In theaters January 27, 2017.
